Welcome to the club. :)
The Hamptons Wine Club is the pet project of Sommelier/Wine Educator, Chris Miller and Store Owner, Paul DeVerna. As wine professionals, we taste a lot of wine. Swirl, Sniff, Swish, Spit, Repeat. But we don't just taste the wine...we talk about it, we contemplate it, we write about it. When we taste a wine, we look for the same thing every other taster is looking for...a high quality product for the price. Unfortunately, there are way too many wines that fall somewhere between mediocre and satisfactory [when considering price].
The purpose of the club is two fold. First, we want a place where we can write about our findings and discuss them with a larger audience. We invite you to join in. If you've tried a wine that we love/hate/feel indifferent toward...we want to know what you think. Second, when we find one of those gems...a wine that exhibits very high quality at a very reasonable price, we want to:
a) Secure as much of the product as we can.
b) Offer it in our store at a reasonable price.
c) Give you a way to purchase the wine from our retail website Hamptons Wine Shoppe
There will be nay sayers that frown upon this type of "self promotion". "Blogs should be clean. Blogs should be pure. Blogs should have Journalistic Integrity..." We can understand why they might be skeptical of our approach, but we look at things a little differently. What we intend to talk about wine...the good, the bad, and the ugly. In the process, if you come to the conclusion that we actually know what we are talking about, and perhaps even begin to trust our opinions on wine...everybody wins. We get to sell great wine, and you get to drink it.
